President Biden unlikely to attend India's Republic Day celebration

• President Biden is not expected to attend India's Republic Day
• The invitation was extended by PM Modi during their bilateral meeting on September 8, held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit
• India is currently looking for revised dates for the Quad Summit, originally scheduled for January 27

In a recent development, President Joe Biden is not anticipated to travel to India for the Republic Day celebration in January, sources familiar with the matter revealed. 

The invitation was extended by PM Narendra Modi during their bilateral meeting on September 8, held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. New Delhi was looking to schedule the next Quad Summit, which groups India, Australia, Japan and the US, on January 27.

However, India is currently looking for revised dates for Quad Summit as the dates currently under consideration do not work with all Quad partners. The summit to be hosted by India is proposed to be held later in 2024.

There was no official comment from the Indian side to New Delhi’s invite for Biden.
While US Ambassador Eric Garcetti mentioned in September that President Biden had been invited by PM Modi to be the chief guest, a formal confirmation from the US side is still pending.
